Install RivalSplit on your watch
RivalSplit is a data field that you add to the activity profile used during the event.
Before you begin
You need a supported Garmin watch, Garmin Connect on your phone and a RivalSplit account. The phone must be connected to the watch over Bluetooth for ongoing updates.
1. Install the data field
During closed testing, you receive an installation file for your exact watch model. Once RivalSplit is published, you install it directly from Connect IQ Store.
An installation file for one model cannot be used on another model.
2. Add RivalSplit to the activity
- Open the activity profile you intend to use, such as running, cycling or cross-country skiing.
- Open the activity settings and select data screens.
- Create a screen with one data field filling the entire screen.
- Select Connect IQ fields and then RivalSplit.
Menu names may vary between watch models and Garmin firmware versions.
3. Connect the watch to your account
- Display the RivalSplit field on the watch. A one-time code is shown.
- Sign in to RivalSplit and open Settings → Watches.
- Enter the code and give the watch a name.
The code expires quickly and can only be used once.
4. Send the split setup
- Plan the split setup on the website.
- Select the watch on the final page.
- Select ‘Send to watch’.
- Start the activity. RivalSplit retrieves the published setup automatically.
Connection during the event
The watch normally retrieves data through Garmin Connect on the connected phone. If the connection is lost, the last valid times remain visible. RivalSplit retries at gradually longer intervals and returns to normal updates when the connection is restored.
Models in the first compatibility group
The first beta group includes recent models in the Garmin epix 2, fēnix 7, fēnix 8, Enduro 3 and Forerunner 165/255/265/570/955/965/970 series. Each model must be built and checked before it is marked as fully tested.
